The Skype app provides the same setup as the original computer download. Messages send and come through quickly while logged into the 3G network. Additionally, Skype app users can easily upload photos for use as icons from their iPhones within a matter of seconds. Heavy Skype users also can save their minutes by making free phone calls with the application. Sending SMS text messages comes with an additional cost, however.
Unfortunately, the app does not come equipped with all of Skype’s bread-and-butter features.
The app neglects to include the group-chat function, nor does it provide response sounds and interactive emoticons. This limits users to speaking with one person at a time; the original computer version enables you to speak with multiple users. Without sound, Skype users must diligently watch their screens for a response.
The biggest drawback to this app is the automatic sign out when switching between functions, whether it is answering a phone call or a text message. This limits the ability to have a continuous conversation.
Users of the Skype app should be signed out of their computer function. If they aren’t, they will return to their computer with a copy of the same conversation.
While the iPhone app is useful for those who are looking to reduce their monthly costs or get connected a bit quicker, this is a non-essential application.
