The Kluckr iPhone app is a buffalo wing restaurant locator that’s not worth its menu price yet.
The next time you get a hankering for spicy buffalo wings and a tall cold one, that delightful American meal that makes your eyes sweat, your tongue tingle and your fingers sticky with red sauce, you might want to try someplace other than the old standbys. The Kluckr iPhone app (99 cents) attempts to help you decide where to go with its catalogue and community of wing establishments and the people who enjoy them. Unfortunately, Kluckr doesn’t deliver.
The upside for wing lovers is that the idea behind Kluckr is a good one. Kluckr’s aim is to establish a central location for information on all the restaurants that sell buffalo wings. The iPhone app then organizes them by location; and rates and reviews them in the categories of heat, atmosphere, value, service and variety
The downside of Kluckr is that it doesn’t do this, and does not appear to have a process in place that will remedy the problem.
I checked the town where I live, as well as four surrounding towns, and didn’t see a single rating or review for the wings locations Kluckr listed. In addition to this lack of information, the wing purveyors listed were not the type sought by wing connoisseurs. Almost all of the locations listed were chains such as Dominoes, Wing Street and Chili’s.
Kluckr’s Web site explained they need users to rate and review, and add their favorite wing spots. Considering the number of restaurants out there this was not a surprise. What was surprising was the ambiguous reward offer to submit ratings and reviews.
Kluckr claimed to occasionally send some users “prizes and promotions,” but it doesn’t give any specifics other than, “We notice. That’s just the kind of guys we are.”
Since users already paid $1 for the app, what’s the incentive to fill it with their own content? When I purchase an app that seems to have almost no valuable content, and I am then asked to furnish content so that in the event I am noticed, I might receive a “prize or promotion,” I notice. That’s just the kind of guy I am.
At this time, don’t waste your money on Kluckr. If they build their catalogue of wing locations into a resource with more useful information, it might be worth another look. But for now, this app should be free.
