Seven iPhone apps worthy of the “Modern Family”

ABC’s hit show, Modern Family, revolves around the lives of three related family units filmed in a mockumentary style. Hilariousness ensues on the show as the camera bounces from quirky family to family. Here are some iPhone apps that would fit flawlessly into the show’s plot line, based on each modern family unit.

Apps for Jay, Gloria and Manny

Jay, the patriarch of the modern family, appears to be more devoted to golfing, at times, than his family. If Jay had an iPhone, he would surely have an app like myGolfstats Golf Shot Tracking and UGSA Handicap app ($4.99), so he could track all his golf stats, and brag about them to the family.

Gloria, Jay’s much younger Colombian wife, is seen as a gold-digger by some family members. Gloria even once said to Jay, “You’re too funny. I’m going to share that one with my next husband when we’re spending all your money.” Always in a sexy little outfit, Gloria looks like she would enjoy spending Jay’s money with the free bebe Mobile app to keep her closet well-stocked with tight outfits.

Manny, Gloria’s son and Jay’s step-son, is wise for his young age. He is seen in many episodes sipping espresso, and could benefit from using the Barista – cafe quality espresso coffee at home – app ($2.99) to perfect his espresso-making skills.

Apps for the Dunphys

Phil and Claire are parents to the Dunphy gang: Haley, Alex and Luke. Claire is the daughter of Jay. Got that? In a recent episode, the Dunphy family challenged each other to eschew technology. Claire lost the bet when she opened her laptop to make a restaurant reservation. She might have had a better chance of not getting caught if she would have downloaded the Open Table iPhone app to make a reservation.

In the end, Haley Dunphy won the competition when she carved a cell phone out of soap and tricked her dad into thinking she was talking on her phone. So, Phil lost the bet when he logged into his laptop to check his fantasy football league stats. If Phil had downloaded the Fantasy Football Monster ’10 app ($2.99) to his iPhone, he might have snuck a peek without getting caught.

Apps for Mitchell, Cameron and Lily

Mitchell is Jay’s son, and brother to Claire Dunphy. Cameron is Mitchell’s longtime boyfriend, and Lily is the couple’s adopted daughter. Cameron, a classically trained clown, played Big Ten football. He surely would have his alma mater’s iPhone app, the Illinois Fighting Illini College SuperFans app ($2.99), to keep track of the latest Illinois football news.

Mitchell is dedicated to making sure daughter Lily has the best education. In a recent episode when the two dads were trying to secure the best preschool for Lily, he said, “Leave it to the gays to raise the only underachieving Asian in America.” Probably, Mitchell would have his iPhone packed with education apps for Lily like My Very First App app (99 cents), which has three matching games based off books by The Very Hungry Caterpillar author.
