Satisfy your hunger with Seamless Food Delivery and Takeout for iPad

For when you’re too tired to cook and feeling too antisocial to pick up the phone to place your pizza order, there’s Seamless Food Delivery and Takeout for iPad.

If you haven’t heard of Seamless, it’s a one-stop web shop for local food delivery. Restaurants that are in the Seamless network provide menus and online ordering, which allows you to order tasty bites without having any human interaction except answering the door for the delivery guy (or gal). In the app you can narrow your cuisine focus, opt to pick up your own food, or choose from places that are delivering food faster than others. The service is current available in 17 metro areas including New York City, Chicago, Boston and San Francisco.

Ordering food through the app is easy and I like that Seamless will store your previous orders for faster repeat business. What I don’t like, however, is that some of the filters available on the Seamless website, such as minimum restaurant rating or restaurant price are not included in the app. You can still filter by cuisine, but although the slider bars are visually appealing, they aren’t the fastest to use. How about a ‘select all’ function to quickly remove all the types you have no interest in? I also wish that you could see menus completely expanded. It’s tedious to open each category of food, especially when each restaurant uses a different menu format.

Seamless isn’t a bad app for iPad, but it’s not the most user friendly. It’s also worth noting that depending on where you live, the service might not be your best delivery option. Seamless was light on user reviews and food photos for options in my area. Plus, for delivery options to my apartment there are only three restaurants with coupons. Through a Seamless rival I can get a discount at just about every place available to me (including establishments that appear discount-less in Seamless).

Consider comparison-shopping for your meal while you’re laying on the couch.
