If you ever had a hankering to try your hand at French cuisine other than the art of the perfectly golden French fry, you’ll love this iPhone app. The The visually stunning photos in this app make even a knuckle of ham (and casserole of guinea fowl) look appetizing. But you won’t find this sometimes vegetarian hunting down a guinea fowl or “runny honey” in the city of Chicago, because I’m pretty sure even my local Whole Foods doesn’t carry guinea fowl. And, while as a native of Indiana I have actually been “frog gigging” before, I can’t bring myself to make nor eat frogs legs in a creamy shallot sauce (although I will admit the frog thighs do look succulent in this app).
The desserts in this French cooking app on the other hand, are what hooked me on this app. For instance, I have no idea what champagne granita is, but now I definitely want to try it. In case you are wondering, it’s basically champagne, sugar, orange and a vanilla pod. I also want to try the chocolate squares, chocolate three ways, chocolate truffles and rum baba, but please, please, please hold the prune flan.
The app does lack the handy grocery list-generating functions that most cooking apps have, so be prepared to handwrite your French grocery list.
