This week’s top iOS games of the week are led off by a game we have been addicted to for weeks. We’ve been playing Ridiculous Fishing on laptops as a flash game under a different name for a while now, but with the release of the iOS app version the addiction has switched right over to our iPhones. Ridiculous Fishing – A Tale of Redemption ($2.99)
Ridiculous Fishing only has three real game mechanics – the initial cast out into the ocean depths, a reel-in where players collect as many fish as possible on their line, and then a shooting game where players shoot at fish as they are thrown around in the air. That doesn’t seem like enough to make a compelling game but boy is it ever. Every aspect of the three mechanics uses a different skill and each is fun and challenging in its own right. Combine that with game’s upgrade system that adds an RPG-lite element to the gameplay and Ridiculous Fishing may be ridiculous, but it’s also very, very good.
Le Vamp ($1.99)
Le Vamp is an endless runner with a bit of a Lemmings-style twist in that the player doesn’t necessarily play as the character endlessly running, but as an omniscient hand making the on-screen terrain acceptable for the endless running itself. Although Le Vamp’s main character is a bite-sized vampire who just wants to run, players will spend the game tapping and swiping along the screen to protect Le Vamp from sunlight, feed him pigs and collect coins for upgrades. It’s a new twist on a well-worn formula, and Le Vamp’s cartoon visuals bring the whole concept to life.

Super Stickman Golf 2 ($0.99)
If you enjoy golf courses designed with the insane whimsy of an obstacle-filled level of Pitfall, Super Stickman Golf 2 is the game for you. It features 20 courses with 180 holes that stretch the credibility of golf in the very best way. Players can customize their golfer for look and additional power-ups, and there’s even a two-player mode to sink your putter in to. The multiplayer aspect features two games: a turn-based version most similar to regular golf, and a race mode that occurs over Wi-Fi with up to three other players as gamers race to see who can finish the course first.
Rock Bandits – Adventure Time ($1.99)
Rock Bandits plays like the comic book Scott Pilgrim come to life. Featuring would-be rock stars battling enemies in comic book inspired environments, it’s hard not to see the similarities. The game features 20 levels, and players can customize their weapons as they play. Rock Bandits also comes with a free original comic created by Adventure Time comic writer Ryan North and artist Shelli Paroline. Coming from the Cartoon Network development team, who already have a few solid app games under their belt, Rock Bandits is worth a look.
Bobbing ($0.99)
Bobbing is an eccentric looking puzzle game that uses colors and gravity as its main gameplay elements. Players have to reverse the gravity in levels while flipping colors around and avoiding dangerous fire to clear levels. With 100 levels of increasing difficulty and 45 “easier” levels, anyone can play Bobbing, but more experienced gamers will probably get a bit more out of the experience.
