Make friends with new Facebook

It only took me 30 seconds to find a flaw with the revised Facebook app: Under “Info,” you can’t revise the caption text under your profile photo (though you can change the picture).

But let’s be fair and give the so-called Facebook 3.0 update credit for what it does exceedingly well: It brings the Facebook experience for iPhone users to the next level, one where experienced users will find lots to love over the app’s previous version.

For starters, Facebook now reorganizes the roadmap into nine segments (e.g. news feed, profile, inbox, photos) that let you choose where you drill down into Facebook. That’s a good starting point for anyone who wants to navigate the fairly complex Facebook world with a simple-to-use app.

Perhaps most exciting: Friend lists now include phone icons that let you call folks who list their phone numbers. Brilliant!

Here’s what else you need to know: Accessing and adding to photo albums is dolt simple, and you can now make friend requests with this update.

Imagine that: Phones used to be for calling friends. Now they’re for making them, too.
