It’s time again for the top iOS apps of the week! Our lead-off app will help you collect and keep track of all your coupons so you’re always ready to save a few bucks when you shop. Meanwhile, the week’s other top apps show off the U.S. National Parks, try to tell you how to best conserve your iPhone battery, pick up your friends at the airport and edit your photos.
RetailMeNot Coupons (Free)
In this tough economy, you have to save money anywhere you can. But it can be difficult to either find coupons you want to use or remember where they were when you finally go to use them. RetailmeNot Coupons aims to solve both problems by offering up hundreds of thousands of coupons for tens of thousands of stores. Once you find a coupon you like, you can save it in the app for quick reference later on. If you do want to use a coupon and you’re physically in the store, you can pull up the app and redeem the coupon without having to print it out, too.
National Parks by National Geographic (Free)
Confession: I have never been to one of the U.S. National Parks. But after checking out National Parks by National Geographic, I’m inclined to take a visit soon. The app offers detailed interactive maps for prominent national parks in the United States, including thousands of points of interest and the top things to see and do while you visit a park. There are even photo tips from real National Geographic photographers. National Parks by National Geographic also has directions to the parks, the local weather, and information on where to set up camp.
Carat (Free)
I mention Carat with the heavy caveat that it’s not included on this list because it is an A+ app, but more for the potential of what it could be. An app that let you know which of your apps was really chowing down on your battery life sounds like a tremendous thing. Unfortunately, Carat has some bugs to iron out before it reaches its potential. It appears to tell people they should update their iOS even when they’re running the most recent version, and constantly keeps on location services, which is also detrimental to battery life. In fact, the iTunes user comments suggest that Carat is a bit of a battery hog itself. Still, there’s absolutely a market for an app to let you know how to keep your battery running longer, and if Carat gets on track, it’ll be a great addition to any iPhone.
Just Landed (Free)
The trickiest part of trying to pick up a friend at the airport is knowing when you should leave to get there on time. Just Landed is an app that offers reminders with real-time traffic data to tell you when you really need to leave to pick up your pal. The app tracks inbound flights and also sends notifications on any flight status changes, so you’re always in the loop. Currently, Just Landed supports all major airports in the U.S., UK, France and Canada, so the coverage area is fairly robust.
Booster! ($0.99)
Booster! Is a simpler photo editor focusing on color and picture filters. Users can choose one of eight filters to run their photos through, and can also create custom curves and adjust the brightness, contrast and saturation of the photo. More advanced users should enjoy the option to adjust the vignette intensity and radius, while color temperature can also be switched up, as well.
