The solutions that Remember It App advertises — that it could one day help you remember your wallet or other item after a long night out on the town — are very real. Without getting into the details, I can safely say that I wish this app had existed a time or two when I was in college. But here we are, and now it does exist and it’s pretty good, but it could be great.
First of all, it’s pretty good because it basically works. You’ll pick a song from your iPod app library, pick one of the three selectable distances, and that song will play and your phone will vibrate when you walk the distance you set the alarm for as long as you have the app open. It’s a pretty cool feature, really.
But there’s something missing here. Like an actual alarm sound, though maybe that’d be weird at a bar. But mostly, this needs some sort of notation feature. If I’m drinking so heavily in a bar that I’m likely to forget my credit card, I’m willing to wager that I might not know why my iPhone is suddenly playing a song, unless something pops up and tells me “Hey go get your wallet!” A custom messaging system is essential to making this app worthwhile.
So Remember It App isn’t perfect, but it might prevent you from making one more ill-advised decision as you end your night. And that sort of extra security seems worth a buck to me.
