RedFin Real Estate is a winning house hunter if you live in the right place

Redfin.com is different from many real estate Web sites in that it is not only a search engine, but also an online brokerage. The site boasts it has completed more than $1.5 billion in home sales.

Redfin has found its way to the iPhone in the form of RedFin Real Estate. The app brings many of the site’s features to your phone and it is sure to be a hit among real estate buffs.

The app does not offer as many goodies as the site; instead it focuses heavily on the search and ‘My Redfin’ functions. This allows the app to provide a basic and easy-to-navigate menu and, most important, presents information quickly and without bugs.

Those familiar with the Web site will notice a similar design, which includes a lot of Google maps.

Redfin’s biggest downfall is that only a limited number of areas are covered (Southern California, Bay Area/Sacramento, Seattle, Chicago, D.C./Baltimore, Westchester County/Long Island and Boston). This obviously makes the app useless to many iPhone users.

Also, most information is available in the app but agent profiles and contacts open in Safari. This is a pet peeve of mine, though Redfin does limit this kind of annoyance.

If you’re looking for a quality real estate app – and you live in one of the already mentioned areas – you can’t go wrong with RedFin Real Estate.
