The Real Racing iPhone app is not the most in-depth racing simulation you will ever play, especially compared to some console and PC games. But it is an incredibly fun game that is well worth the $9.99 download cost.
The game is reminiscent of the original Gran Turismo. Not only does it have comparable graphics, but it is also based around a career mode in which you unlock new cars and tracks. In total, Real Racing boasts 48 cars and 12 tracks.
It also has loads of control options so newbies can pick up the game and play it immediately, while more experienced users can use more advanced controls to keep it interesting. There are three different difficulty levels and the career mode includes 76 events. This is an app you will be revisiting often.
The movement of the cars is very realistic, though they did not appear to suffer any damage when you hit other cars or the wall. Also, there were times when the game got a little choppy for me, though not enough to pry me away from it.
The same downfalls of other apps this size also apply to Real Racing – longer download and load times, as well as a drain on your battery.
Overall, the two things that stood out to me were how fun the game was and how much depth it had to it. For a game that will set you back almost $10, the replay value is off the charts. This app is a must have for any racing fan and truly worthy of its bold name.
