Quantum iPad app another trippy, colorful light show

I have several apps that allow me to move my fingers around on my iPad screen and manipulate light and color and gravity. They’re great for showing off the iPad, and I’m sure there’s more than one taker of psychedelic drugs (do the kids still do those?) who has spent hours upon hours staring at the pretty lights.

Quantum ($1.99) is yet another app in this genre.  Accompanied by mellow synthesized music, you can change size, speed, color and gravity (up or down or side-to-side), and by tapping the “next” button, you’re treated to a different style of light and color.

Unlike many of these types of apps, the music is just background noise in Quantum, rather than really becoming part of the light show.

Some of the designs are a little lame. Even after fooling around with the parameters, I was unable to make a couple of them even slightly interesting. The shapes aren’t always sharp, but rather out-of-focus.

Promised future updates will allow users to save their designs, though as far as I’m concerned, there’s no real purpose to saving them. The fun is in the randomness and play.
