Pocket (formerly Read it Later) tops iOS Apps of the Week

This week’s top apps list is headlined by a returning favorite. It wasn’t that long ago that Read It Later was a fan favorite for helping iPhone users save articles for offline reading when they were too busy to check them out live. Now it has returned as Pocket with a few new tricks up its sleeve that make it worth checking out all over again. This week’s list features also features an app west coast sports fans will love, and apps for dreamers, cupcake lovers and fun-seekers.

Pocket (Free)

When the iPhone’s Safari app added its own offline reading features, the onus was on the apps performing that function previously to step up in new and interesting ways. Pocket (formerly Read it Later) has done exactly that. The app now boasts a clean, readable user interface that it was originally lacking. Additionally, users can sync the content they want to read across multiple platforms, from iPhone to iPad to MacBook as long as the content has been saved to Pocket. Pocket also automatically separates multimedia so images, video and audio clips are organized separately and easier to find later.

ScoreBig Daily (Free)

Sports fans in LA and San Francisco take note; ScoreBig Daily could save you big time on day-of-event ticket prices. The app promises savings up to 60 percent on select events each day, and the catch isn’t all that bad. ScoreBig users name their own price for events and then the app will either reject or accept the price named. The catch is that if the price suggested is rejected, users can’t submit a new one for three hours. So the best bet to actually attending a game you are bidding on is to make the price fair enough to be accepted. It’s a smart app, and about the only disappointing aspect of ScoreBig Daily is that it’s not available for events outside of California yet.

Sigmund ($0.99)

This one’s for all the dreamers out there. If you’re tired of strange dreams where you wake up wondering if you went to the office without pants on yesterday, Sigmund will attempt to throw some happier thoughts your way during your sleep cycle. Users can pick key phrases that a real human voice will whisper through the app while you sleep. Sigmund claims that numerous sleep studies have confirmed that audio suggestion during the REM cycle is the key to influencing dreaming, and with this app, you’ll be able to find out for yourself.

Food Network Cupcakes! (iPad) ($2.99)

Cupcakes are not quite the buzz-worthy dessert they were a few years ago, but that’s no reason to shun the tasty treat altogether. Food Network Cupcakes! packs more than 100 recipes for cupcakes under its hood. It even has gluten-free cupcake recipes. In addition to recipes for the cupcakes themselves, there are a dozen different frosting recipes contained in FNC! as well as recipes for the award-winning cupcakes seen on the Cupcake Wars TV show.

Time To Enjoy (Free)

Time To Enjoy lets you narrow your search for fun activities down to the exact times you’ll be available. You can search a specific distance radius and time period to see exactly what’s going on when you’re free to enjoy it. You can purchase tickets to events and also see movie trailers and detailed descriptions of activities right within the app. Time To Enjoy can also be personalized by event category so you’ll only see the events you care about – for instance, If you’re not a sports fan, you won’t be bombarded with suggestions to go to the game. Once you find something you want to check out, share it via text, email, Facebook or Twitter to get your friends involved, too.
