Not a lot to like about StuffWeLike iPhone app

StuffWeLike is an uneventful, possibly broken, app that takes a mildly good idea and doesn’t really go anywhere with it. Its basic premise as a sort of app-blog of little posts with pop culture snippets and links makes a lot of sense, but it’s not executed well.

For starters, the app simply doesn’t work like it was intended to, or at least like I hope it was intended. There are posts on the “Updates” tab of the StuffWeLike app like “Stephen Colbert Sings Friday,” where clicking on that post takes you to about a paragraph of information on Colbert’s performance of the viral hit, but then doesn’t actually link to the video, even though the final sentence in the post “Of course here’s Rebecca Black’s Friday:” suggests it will.

That occurs on basically every update posted on the app, rendering its most interesting feature basically useless. The “Videos” tab fares a bit better, providing video reviews of various video games and other messages from the app’s creator, but even those distill “StuffWeLike” into “VideogamesWeLike” — a much more narrow focus.

Then there’s the “WebCam” tab. While there are a few interesting clips here, the majority of the videos under the “WebCam” tab focus on “unboxing” videos — a narrator discussing the box of various products. This includes explaining the features and selling points as dictated directly from the box. It’s baffling that anyone would consider making these videos, let alone someone else watching them.

The idea of StuffWeLike has potential, but it’s not utilized in any significant way on this app. A major content overhaul is needed before this is worth downloading.
