If you think that nerds in glasses are the only app-obsessed folks around, guess again. According to TampaBay.com, even NFL players and coaches can’t get enough of the iPad. They’ve even done away with their 300-page playbooks in order to convert everything to the digital age. With that in mind, maybe it’s time you ditch those multiple fantasy football magazine subscriptions and settle down with these fine NFL apps for the upcoming season.
NFL ’11 (Free)
You can’t really go wrong with the flagship app of the NFL. For the small price of completely free, you’ll get live scoring and play-by-plays, fantasy football stats and videos of the coaches’ press conferences, among other things. You can even set alerts for games so you can make sure never to miss a snap. As if you ever would.
NFL Fantasy Cheat Sheet 2011 ($2.99)
I really wish I had this app last weekend when I was taking Josh Freeman as my QB1 and then seconds later saying, “Did I just take Josh Freeman as my starting quarterback?” I did, but that’s no excuse for you. Get pick recommendations from the app as well as consistency ratings for each player so you know who tends to ebb and flow from game to game, and who stays more consistent. If you’re a serious fantasy football player, this is a serious fantasy football app.
Fantasy Football Monster ’11 ($2.99)
Are your fantasy games spread out over multiple websites like Yahoo!, ESPN and NFL.com? This app has you covered. You can run your team from this one mega app. Edit your lineups, trade players, add and drop them, even post to your league message boards. Everything you need is right here, it’s like the universal remote of fantasy football apps.
Pro Football Insider (Free)
Pro Football Insider is the official app of Pro Football Weekly, a publication many consider a necessary bible of information during the NFL season. The app version is no slouch either. It has over 1,000 videos a season, a Twitter feed featuring tweets by both players and analysts, and of course all the latest NFL news. If you want some more league info that isn’t filtered through NFL.com, Pro Football Insider is a great option.
NFL Trash Tweets ($0.99)
I balk often at apps that feature specific Twitter feeds, but NFL Trash Tweets is a different beast altogether. It collects tweets from all over the NFL. You can then search by team for the individual player whose tweets you want to read. Don’t care about the Buffalo Bills’ tweets? Skip ‘em! You don’t have to read any tweet you’re not interesting in. If you’re into checking-in on athletes, this is an app for you.
