Kick off the week with an app that lets parents read to their children even while away from home. Your StoryTime lets users record themselves reading digital books, so even if you’re not with your kids, you can still read to them. We’ve also got two huge role-playing titles for players to enjoy: Baldur’s Gate II, an iPad remake of the classic 2000 RPG from BioWare, and Legend Online, a massively multiplayer online game set in a huge fantasy world.
Your StoryTime (iPad) (Free)
What’s it about? Your StoryTime makes it possible for parents to read to their children even when they’re away from their kids, by recording their voices to be used to narrate digital storybooks.
What’s cool? Traveling parents know spending time with the kids back home is important, and the rise of smartphones and tablets has made that a bit easier with things like video calling. Your StoryTime uses technology to address another problem for parents: reading to their kids when even when the parents are away. The app makes it possible for users to record their voices reading digital storybooks, so that even when you’re traveling, your children can hear you read to them. You can also record additional material so that when kids tap on certain elements in the book, like a word or a picture, the explanation that goes with it is also in your voice. Your Storytime also records video, so your kids can see you reading to them and you can record an introduction video to kick things off.
Who’s it for? Traveling parents who don’t want to skip reading to their kids should try Your Storytime as a solution.
What’s it like? The Your StoryTime: Companion App for iPhone makes it possible to record storytime videos remotely and send them back to the iPad, so you can record reading sessions from the road.
Baldur’s Gate II ($14.99)
What’s it about? Head back into the world of Baldur’s Gate with another faithful iPad port of a classic role-playing title in Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition.
What’s cool? The Baldur’s Gate series is famous for its deep take on the Forgotten Realms of the Dungeons & Dragons universe, and after some delays, Baldur’s Gate II has finally gotten the awesome iOS re-release treatment that its predecessor did. The game is true to the original’s role-playing style, and the enhanced edition includes the Throne of Bhaal expansion and lots of other additional expansion content as well. There’s also a multiplayer mode that players can dive into with other players across their device’s Internet connection, and the game includes newly rendered art and improvements to gameplay and interface.
Who’s it for? Fans of classic RPGs won’t want to miss this title from way back in 2000.
What’s it like? Obviously players interested in Baldur’s Gate II should grab Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, and for more classic role-playing from original developer BioWare, snag Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Legend Online (Free)
What’s it about? Massively multiplayer online title Legend Online takes players into a fantasy world where they can team up or face off as they work through a vast world and storyline.
What’s cool? Legend Online takes players into a huge fantasy world, where they can choose from one of three character classes and plunge into a massively multiplayer experience. The game is based on turn-based battles that require players to use strategy in order to be successful, and over time you’ll be able to customize your character’s appearance and abilities in order to become stronger. Players can team up to take down huge bosses, or go solo through Legend’s story and arena areas, and there’s also a player-versus-player mode that lets you square off against people from around the world.
Who’s it for? Fans of the huge worlds of MMOs, as well as the option to fight cooperatively or against other players, should check out Legend Online.
