Guinness World Records 2014 – Augmented Reality (Free)

What’s it about? Use your iOS devices to view turn Guinness’s most recent record book into an augmented reality experience.

What’s cool? Every year, Guinness compiles its huge number of world records into a book that’s filled with the most extreme things in the world. Going along with the book this year is an augmented reality app that can turn those records into visuals you can access with your iPhone or iPad. The app works by scanning the pages of the record book and overlaying pictures on the screen of your device, showing things like the world’s biggest snake or video clips related to records. There are also interactive elements, as well, that let you do things like add the world’s longest tongue to photos of your friends.

Who’s it for? If you’re a fan of Guinness’ world record books, grab this app. But note that you’ll need the 2014 book for it to work.

What’s it like? Grab the earlier Guinness apps as well, Guinness World Records 2013 and Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition.

Device 6 ($3.99)

What’s it about? The latest title from developer Simogo, Device 6 is something of an interactive fiction game in which players read along with a story, while interacting with strange elements in the text.

What’s cool? At first glance, Device 6 seems to be something like an ebook, heavy on text and telling a slowly unfolding story. As you read, however, the more game-like elements become apparent, as interactive images and and buttons start to insert themselves into the text. Unlocking the story over time gets weird as players track text moving around their screen, finding strange elements and trying to solve their puzzles.

Who’s it for? If you like storytelling in your games and experimental approaches to play, try Device 6.

What’s it like? Check out Simogo’s other great games, Year Walk and Beat Sneak Bandit.
