Here are three great iPhone apps to download. Skitch hit version 2.0 and also works on iPhone instead of exclusively on iPad. It now has much tighter integration with Evernote (the company purchased Skitch earlier this year). We’ve also got Karoo, a nice way for parents to share the progress of their children with select people. Finally, there’s an update to Hallo – Social Voice, a voice-messaging app which now lets you send free text messages too.
Skitch (Free)
What’s it about? The drawing and annotation app is no-longer an iPad exclusive. It now works on iPhone and also boasts better integration with Evernote.
What’s cool? With Skitch, it’s easy to sketch an idea, annotate a diagram or draw on a photograph. Now, everything you create is synced with your Evernote account, and you can start working on one device and finish it off on another. There’s also a way to pixelate parts of a document or image to keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.
Who is it for? The app is a popular way to capture screen information on desktop and laptop computers, so fans will be happy to see it’s no longer just an iPad-only app. Skitch is useful for people who like to share drawings, give presentations or brainstorm ideas.
What’s it like? There are a few other screen capture and annotation apps out there like Imajao or Clipboard for clipboard.com, which we featured last week.
Karoo (Free)
What’s it about? Karoo (from Care.com) is a great way for parents, caregivers and loved ones to stay connected and share all the moments of childhood as they happen.
What’s cool? Whether it’s updates on feeding and naps, videos of first steps or photos at soccer practice, all these memories are at your fingertips with Karoo. You can add all the photos and videos you want, and there are no membership or storage fees.
Who is it for? Karoo can be helpful for parents who are away from their children for a while but still want to track their progress. It’s also great for grandparents, relations or friends so they can keep up-to-date with the little ‘uns. In addition, caregivers like nannies or babysitters can send feeding, medical and other updates with CareLogs.
What’s it like? While there are plenty of apps out there for sharing update, photo and video with selected people (Path or Burst come to mind), only a few like Kidfolio or 23snaps have the child-centered focus of Karoo.
Hallo – Social Voice update (Free, iPad)
What’s it about? Hallo offers a convenient way to send quick, private voice messages of 30 seconds or less to individuals or groups.
What’s cool? This latest update now sees Hallo offering completely free text messaging in addition to their voice services. Also, group notifications can be muted if they’re too active and there are “verified” badges for famous users (a bit like Twitter). For Android users of the app, there is hashtag search support, but this will come to the iOS version very soon.
Who is it for? For people who prefer to send quick voice messages rather than type out tedious text messages, Hallo is certainly worth a look. Many claim using voice makes their communication that little bit more personal and friendly.
What’s it like? The app is not dissimilar to voice messaging services offered by apps like Voxer, textPlus, TalkBox and numerous others.
