New iPhone apps worth downloading: OutlinesOutloud, Cut the Rope: Time Travel and Pixel Defenders Puzzle updates

Students, today’s first app worth downloading is aimed in your direction. It’s called OutlinesOutloud, and it’s specifically geared toward users who do better hearing their notes read than reading them, converting notes and outlines into voice automatically. We’ve also got two big updates to great games: first, Cut the Rope: Time Travel has new levels as players travel to the Disco era, and second, puzzler Pixel Defenders Puzzle has added new features to help strategy players get even more out of the game.

OutlinesOutloud ($4.99)

What’s it about? OutlinesOutloud helps students learn better by automatically reading their study notes and outlines aloud.

What’s cool? Lots of students in the world learn better not from seeing or reading things, but by hearing them out loud. With that in mind comes OutlinesOutloud, an app that helps students to learn better by allowing them to create study notes and outlines, and then reads them aloud to users. The idea is that if you’re an auditory learner, OutlinesOutloud can help, and study notes and outlines can be synced to your iOS devices from your computer. The app also allows you to adjust play speed, loop playback, clear sections with a swipe and more.

Who’s it for? If you’re one of the huge number of students that do a better job learning from listening to lessons rather than reading them, check out OutlinesOutloud.

What’s it like? Try Flashcards++ and Super Notes: Recorder, Notes, Memos for more study options for students.

Cut the Rope: Time Travel update ($0.99)

What’s it about? Take on puzzles from throughout the ages in Cut the Rope: Time Travel, the sequel to the original casual arcade title in which players need to manipulate a hanging candy to feed a cute monster.

What’s cool? The Cut the Rope games are all about feeding the uber-cute monster known as Om Nom, using all manner of implements – like swinging ropes, floating bubbles and more. In Cut the Rope: Time Travel, developer ZeptoLabs has tweaked the formula to make its puzzles a little more challenging, taking players through various historical eras that include Om Nom’s ancestors. The result is a series of levels in which players have to feed not one monster, but two, with other challenges you’ll need to think your way around that make things a bit more interesting. Cut the Rope: Time Travel also just got a new update that adds another epoch to the lineup – the Disco era, complete with new levels and elements to utilize.

Who’s it for? Puzzle game fans and those who enjoy the other Cut the Rope titles shouldn’t miss Time Travel’s new update.

What’s it like? Don’t forget to grab the other two games in the Cut the Rope series, Cut the Rope and Cut the Rope: Experiments.

Pixel Defenders Puzzle update ($1.99)

What’s it about? Battle the forces of evil in Pixel Defenders Puzzle by using match-3 gameplay to create a force of defenders, in a hybrid of puzzle and role-playing action.

What’s cool? The major component of Pixel Defenders Puzzle is the sort of match-3 gameplay players will recognize from games like Bejeweled, but it’s a little more strategic than that. Players match different “pixels” to create characters, and then combine those characters to make stronger characters, and so on. All those characters you create are used to defend a group of royal VIPs from attacking monsters, so in addition to matching things together to keep the game moving, you’ll also have to use your forces to their fullest to fight off bad guys and save kings and queens from harm. Pixel Defenders Puzzle also just got a big new update that introduces features like the ability to undo your last move with no penalty, new music and boss fights, and other little features that give players more control over their strategy.

Who’s it for? If the combination of puzzles and battles sounds interesting to you, grab Pixel Defenders Puzzle.

What’s it like? Other matching games that have a strategy component include Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes and Triple Town.
