NextGuide TV Program Listings is a great way to view what’s on TV with the added benefit of seeing what’s streaming from Netflix, Hulu and iTunes as well. 3DPCase is an app that offers a selection of templates so you can design your very own personalized iPhone case. Finally, we’ve got a new endless runner called Blood Roofs which offers stunning graphics and plenty of colossal beasts to fend off.
NextGuide TV Program Listings (iPad only, Free)
What’s it about? This new iPad app offers personalized TV listings so you never have to worry about not being able to find something worth watching.
What’s cool? NextGuide is smart because it not only captures live TV listings, but also streaming service like Neflix, iTunes and Hulu to create a “hyper-personalized” guide to what’s on. You can create a category about pretty much anything – actor, genre, your home city, favorite sports team – and DirectTV customers will be able to set their DVRs. The app’s powerful social features take into account what your friends like to watch, too.
Who is it for? Seems we’re watching more TV on our devices than on TVs themselves these days, so iPad owners should welcome NextGuide, whether they’re cable subscribers or just users of streaming services. DirectTV subscribers will appreciate the ability to control their DVR from the app.
What’s it like? There are other TV guide apps out there (like TV Guide Mobile, naturally), but few offer the interactivity and extend the listings to streaming services. Peel is a popular service for personalizing your TV watching experience.
3DPCase (Free)
What’s it about? Ever wanted to design your very own personalized iPhone case with your own hand? 3DPCase from Sculpteo lets you do just that.
What’s cool? It’s disappointing the app’s description is so sparse because this is a neat idea. It offers a selection of five stock templates for your design, but you can customize the layout and add shapes, patterns, an embossed map or even your own photo. Once the design has been finalized, it costs a fairly reasonable $14.99 to get the creation made and shipped directly to you.
Who is it for? With the new iPhone 5 just a few days away, 3DPCase seems like a great way to make your device stand out from the crowd, because after all, there’s going to be a whole lotta new iPhones out there soon! However, designing in-app with 3DPCase might be easier on an iPad’s larger screen initially.
What’s it like? There’s an app out there called CaseApp by Dropico that performs a similar function (cost described as “under $30”) and myphoneDesign, offering customized cases starting at $14.95.
Blood Roofs ($2.99)
What’s it about? Blood Roofs is a spectacular-looking Temple Run-style over-the-shoulder endless runner in which you help a duo escape over the rooftops of a city.
What’s cool? The game is optimized for Retina displays, runs at a smooth 60 fps and features some impressive 3-D thunderstorms. It has a fighting/shooting element because you encounter giant creatures, enormous boss beasts and some survivors who need Jake and Catherine’s help. Collecting coins will unlock power-ups and special features.
Who is it for? Blood Roofs should appeal to both endless runner fans and people who simply enjoy third-person fighting/action games. It’s a nice take on a common genre with interesting dual characters to control and some impressive specular effects.
What’s it like? As ever, titles like Blood Roofs get immediate comparisons to games like Temple Run, but it does add a bit of originality with its battle elements. Fans of Agent Dash or One Epic Knight should enjoy this take on the endless runner genre.
