Kicking off today’s crop of apps worth downloading is Instagram client Negatives. The app is specially designed to give users a new way to browse through images on the popular photo-sharing social network. Following that is Soundbite Messenger, a messaging app for sending audio files to other users that are automatically deleted once the recipient listens to them. Finally, Star Trek Trexels pairs simulation gameplay with the “Star Trek” license to send players to the far reaches of the galaxy with a ship and crew they create themselves.
Negatives (Free)
What’s it about? Page through Instagram photos from users you follow using a whole different look and interface with Negatives.
What’s cool? Negatives is an Instagram client, and uses that social network’s API to bring everything you’d expect from the photo-viewing portion of the Instagram app. Instead of Instagram’s usual interface, however, Negatives provide you with a new way to look at images – namely, by dividing them into “negatives,” sorted according to the user who shot them. The app looks to make it easy to sort through friends’ photos and favorite them or comment on them, as well as to find photos from other users, as well. Negatives also lets you flip to a more grid-like view so you can look through multiple photos quickly.
Who’s it for? Heavy Instagram users should check out Negative’s take on the social networking aspect of the app.
What’s it like? Of course, check out the original Instagram for its social networking features, as well as what it offers users in terms of creating cool vintage photos.
Soundbite Messenger (Free)
What’s it about? Send and receive private voice messages with Soundbite Messenger, which are deleted after the recipient has listened to them.
What’s cool? You might consider Soundbite Messenger to be the Snapchat of vioce messaging services. The app lets user record voice messages of up to 20 seconds in length and send them to friends. When those friends receive a soundbite and listen to it, the message is automatically deleted, protecting your privacy from allowing the message to be reshared with others. It’s easy for users to reply as well, creating conversations of voice messages that can be sent at the users’ pace.
Who’s it for? Anyone who likes the idea of conversing through audio messages, but would rather those messages disappear after they’re sent, should give Soundbite Messenger a try.
What’s it like? Get a similer experience with Voxer Walkie-Talkie PTT, and send self-destructing image messages using Snapchat.
Star Trek Trexels ($2.99)
What’s it about? Build your Federation starship and explore the Trexelian Expanse in Star Trek Trexels, a simulation game based on Star Trek: The Original Series.
What’s cool? After the destruction of the Federation starship USS Valiant, Starfleet has decided to send you to the ship’s last known location, the Trexelian Expanse, to find out what happened. Your job as captain is to build your ship room by room in a simulation-style game, as well as to recruit your crew and head out to explore. You’ll also complete missions by sending your crew down to planets and by taking on enemy ships, as characters from “Star Trek” make appearances throughout the game. Star Trek Trexels is narrated by George Takei (Mr. Sulu of the original series) and features licensed music and other recognizable “Star Trek” elements.
Who’s it for? Fans of “Star Trek” and simulation titles will find plenty of places to boldly go in Star Trek Trexels.
What’s it like? You’ll find more engaging simulation titles in Epic Astro Story and Star Wars: Tiny Death Star.
