Today we’re starting with the updated Byword, an app that aims to make Markdown formatting more enjoyable, and following it up with FitStar: Tony Gonzalez, a fitness app featuring the football player. Finally, we’ve got Cubemen 2, a strategy game with “voxel” graphics to scratch a number of multiplayer itches.
Byword update ($2.99)
What’s it about? Byword supports a newish form of web literacy, boasting a streamlined writing process that features Markdown, for publishing posts to blogs and exporting documents.
What’s cool? The newest update strengthens the app’s core functionally. Now the app enables users by: documents automatically download when their iDevice is connected to WiFi, full offline Dropbox support, improved visuals, and what the heck, even more fonts are available.
Who’s it for? This is for anyone who writes, either professionally or as a hobby, particularly for web-based publishing. Is there any other kind of publishing, these days?
What’s it like? Nocs is similar, but offers a less clean user interface. Writing Kit is also pretty handy for anyone who writes with Markdown.
FitStar: Tony Gonzalez (iPad) (Free)
What’s it about? Get your fitness training tips from football legend Tony Gonzalez with iPad app FitStar.
What’s cool? The goal of FitStar is to act as your personal trainer, with the app adapting to your fitness level with a range of exercises from beginner to expert. The app packs music and video to go with its exercise lists, featuring Gonzalez to demonstrate different exercises and help users maintain good form. FitStar also has the ability to track your progress and let you share your workout goals and progress with other users, helping you and other users to help keep each other on track, and you can stream to Apple TV as well.
Who’s it for? Users looking to get in shape and who might need a little help should try FitStar.

Cubemen2 ($1.99)
What’s it about? Sporting “voxel” graphics similar to Minecraft, Cubemen2 is a strategy game in which players deploy their cubemen into battle across a number of game modes.
What’s cool? Strategy title Cubemen2 should appeal to strategy fans if for no other reason than it has a lot of options on offer. The game lets players take on various strategy scenarios with their cubemen, dispatching them across voxel maps with a variety of different simple kinds of terrain. Things get interesting when you start considering how many different game types there are, ranging from straight battles to capture the flag and more. There’s also multiplayer support for as many as six players at a time, and Cubemen2 lets players fight across platforms, so you can take on cube strategists playing on Mac computers as well as on iOS devices.
Who’s it for? If you’re like the graphical style of games such as Minecraft but with a strategic flair, try Cubemen2.
