Birdseye Mail (iPad) (Free)
What’s it about? Email client Birdseye Mail has been built specifically for use on the iPad, providing it with a unique visual style and finger-friendly presentation.
What’s cool? Using your iPad for email is handy, but most email clients don’t feel optimized for what the iPad offers in screen size and features. Birdseye looks to change that by focusing on the tablet experience for email – specifically Google’s Gmail – by providing a slick, colorful interface that makes elegant use of the iPad’s dimensions. The app makes navigating your inbox easier by using big folders rather than small menus, and lets you quickly page through multiple emails at once so that you can see them from a macro level before diving in for a closer look.
Who’s it for? If you’re looking for a better way to use Gmail on your iPad, check out Birdseye.
What’s it like? The standalone Gmail app is no slouch, and neither is Yahoo! Mail.
Throw With Joe ($0.99)
What’s it about? Joe Montana has teamed up with Joint Juice to create a game in which players take on the role of quarterback. 100 percent of the proceeds are donated to Arthritis Foundation for Arthritis Awareness Month.
What’s cool? Top-down game Throw With Joe tasks you with being quarterback to a team and using your device’s tilt controls to keep the ball free of interceptions. With each throw, you need to keep the ball out of the opposing team’s hands by aiming down the field for the receiver, but you can guide the ball after the fact by tilting your device left and right. Your best throws are saved on Throw With Joe’s leaderboards, so you can see how you stack up against players around the world.
Who’s it for? If you enjoy simple football games and donating to a good cause, check out Throw With Joe.
What’s it like? Check out NFL Pro 2013 and Madden NFL 13 Social for more football gaming fun.
Angry Birds Friends (Free)
What’s it about? Angry Birds developer Rovio Mobile tweaks its formula again to bring you a new iteration on its juggernaut, this time geared at playing with friends.
What’s cool? Using your crop of Facebook friends, Angry Birds Friends turns the well-loved Angry Birds formula into a multiplayer experience. The game packs new levels of the usual stripe – you shoot birds at structures using a slingshot, and each bird has different abilities and properties – only this time, you compete with your friends by issuing challenges across Facebook. Angry Birds Friends also packs weekly tournaments in which you can compete, and has special power-ups specific to the game that can give you a boost, as well.
Who’s it for? Angry Birds fans who want to take the fight to their friends, this one’s for you.
What’s it like? The original Angry Birds is still worth your time (and still getting updates), and Angry Birds Space refreshes the formula in some great ways.
