Summer picnics and trips to the playground might be a little less messy thanks to a new iPhone app that helps moms and other users remove stains right on the spot.
With each shake of the iPhone, the app’s virtual slot machine might land on “Kid-Carnival-Shorts” or “Grandma-Thanksgiving-Tablecloth”. MyStain then shares tips on how to deal with the unfortunate combinations of hot dogs and roller coasters, or red wine and holiday linens.
“The fun is in spinning and seeing what combination comes up,” explained Amanda Mahan, a creative director with Clorox. “Everyone seems to be using apps on their mobile phones, and we know moms in particular are heavy users.”
MyStain is the first foray onto the iPhone for Clorox, a $5.5 billion company that owns such iconic brands as Kingsford Charcoal and K C Masterpiece Barbecue Sauce. The app is part of the overall social media campaign for Clorox, and encourages users to share what they learn on MyStain with friends on Facebook and Twitter. There is also a search component that teaches users how to wash away any kind of stain imaginable.
Clorox will be releasing a separate application for the Droid and other Android phones that operate on Google’s mobile software.
With new innovations coming from Apple and other smart phone creators each day, one wonders how long it will be until an app is developed that can literally remove stains.
“We’ll give that idea to R&D and see if they can come up with something,” joked Mahan.
