WordPress has finally come out with an official Android app, marking another level of validation for Google’s mobile platform. Mobile blogging can be a great deal easier with integrated options available on smart phones, such as those that run Android’s platform.
From Blogger to TypePad, Tumblr and Twitter, there are a number of free Android apps that will keep you blogging on the go.
WordPress and Blogger
WordPress’ open source Android app has been a long time coming. The free app lets you access your multiple WordPress blogs, create posts and manage your comments, tags and photos. New comments alerts appear in the notification bar. Android users already familiar with wpToGo will have no trouble with the first-release WordPress Android app.
Surprisingly, Google has yet to launch an official Blogger app in its Android Market. Those seeking a viable alternative should try Blogaway. Access multiple Blogger accounts, create drafts and posts, and manage comments. The free Blogaway app also has geotag support and integration with YouTube and Picasa, as well as other Google properties.
AndroBlogger is another Android app created for Blogger. Basic in appearance and functionality, the free Android app still works well with few complications. View your Blogger entries, create new ones, and manage comments.
For a gateway to multiple platforms, PixelPipe does a pretty good job interfacing with major blogs such as Xanga, TypePad, Blogger and WordPress. With individual apps for certain blogs, there are plenty of free PixelPipe Android apps to choose from. The apps are particularly useful for media uploads to blogs and social networks like Facebook.
Mobile Microblogging
The aTumble Free Edition Android app gives you access to your Tumblr microblog. Retaining much of the look and feel of Tumblr, aTumble has a familiar feel for regular users. Pretty much everything but audio and video upload support is available through the free aTumble app, which works just as well as the paid version.
If you’re more inclined to use Twitter, the Seesmic Android app can serve your blogging needs. Free, Seesmic lets you follow conversations more easily than Twidroid. You can manage lists and groups for free with Seesmic, which is more appealing than paying for a premium app that offers similar functionality.
