MyShopanion iPhone app does little to inspire shopping

The free myShopanion iPhone app has a catchy name. But to be honest, the appeal stops there.

The app is, in short, a massive list of random objects available for purchase. There doesn’t seem to be any particular theme or specialization, and yet for an “everything” kind of store, the options are painfully limited.

For example, in the magazine category I encountered “Unknown Sexo Y Otros Secretos Movies” magazine, as well as other such similar “must-have” rags. In the “gift ideas” category, there was absolutely nothing. My favorite was probably “office machines.” I mean really, who is going to purchase a $5,000 copier on their iPhone?

The app includes a bar code scanner, but the first three items (Baskins Robbins ice cream, Cheerios cereal, and a sweater purchased at the Gap) I attempted to scan produced a “no results” message.

The app allows you to add “friends,” but why you would want to do so isn’t exactly apparent. Perhaps to share recent purchases? Or track the things each of you have been looking at? But I would be embarrassed to share with anyone that I had actually bought something from this terrible app.

If you want an app that allows you to shop for everything on your iPhone, stick to the Amazon app; it has a cooler design and much better products.
