If you work with color and wish to create custom colors for projects, myPANTONE is fantastic.
With nine different Pantone fandecks of colors to choose, the possibilities seem endless. Choose an image (from your saved photos or take a new photo with your iPhone’s camera) and the app auto-extracts colors from the photo based on the fandeck of your choice. You can adjust the palette by touching an area on the photo until it shows the color you want; then just drag it onto the palette to replace an auto-extracted color.
Also, you can email a palette, post it online for friends to see, send to another device or view in layout mode. There’s an online community of more than 360,000 members that share color palettes, tips and techniques, color management, color tidbits, support files and fun tools.
The app is similar to Ben Color Capture, which creates custom color palettes based on Benjamin Moore paints, but myPANTONE takes it a big step further by providing three kinds of codes to take your color into reality with printed products, Photoshop or for Web design. You can also apply the custom colors to a background image to view layouts of your own creation.
Additionally, you can annotate color palettes with both text and voice notes, which is great if you’re on the go.
The only element this app lacks is a help feature for troubleshooting and learning how it works. Otherwise, it’s well worth $9.99 to have access to such a variety of color options while you’re not tethered to a computer.
