MyFax by Protus IP Solutions is a free iPhone app that is a direct extension of MyFax.com, and brings faxing to your device. With this app, you can receive faxes through your MyFax account directly on your iPhone. If you are like me and think that faxes are the most archaic thing that still exists in the business world and you are dying to digitize, this may be the app you are looking for.
When you launch this app for the first time, you must enter your account info and then you will be taken to the “Home” page. Select “Inbox,” and you will be at your virtual fax machine inbox. These same faxes will also appear in the inbox of the email address with which you registered on MyFax.com.
This app is supremely simple; the interface is basic and the controls easy to use. It connects your virtual fax machine with your iPhone and that is the beginning and the end.
If you don’t have a MyFax account, get your credit card ready because their “Free 30 Day Trial” requires one. It sort of makes you wonder how free it is if you must provide your credit card info. It’s always been a pet peeve of mine. If something is free, then you don’t need my credit card information.
If you need to fax a document, I’d recommend MyFax. You can finally get rid of that huge fax machine that no one seems to know how to operate, even though the directions are stuck on the wall directly above it and it’s been in the office for the last decade. For everyone else, you simply won’t need it.
Overall, MyFax does what it was designed to do. I do, however, think they could have done better with the look and feel, as it feels empty. Perhaps that is because no one sends me faxes. Unless you absolutely need it, take a pass and move on.
