Must-have iPhone app PixyMe gives postcards a new twist

You know those ideas you wish you’d thought of? The iPhone app PixyMe ($1.99) is one of those ideas.

Developed by Illinois-based company Tukaiz, a marketing communications provider, PixyMe takes the e-postcard trend a step further by allowing users to not only personalize their e-cards, but to also have them printed and sent through the postal service. Wishing you thought of it now, too, right?

PixyMe is preloaded with more than 100 images, but users can upload their own images from the iPhone’s camera roll. After selecting an image from the slick waterfall-style menu, the text can be personalized—spell out a name in balloons or a holiday greeting in city lights, whatever you like.

E-cards can be posted to Facebook or saved to the camera roll to be sent as an MMS. When sending cards through email, anything you type in the message body appears as a handwritten-text image to the recipient. Although the iPhone app did have an issue auto-suggesting addresses when sending via email, that was the only problem I experienced.

If you choose to send a tangible postcard via mail the cost is $1.99 for anywhere in the U.S., or $2.99 for international shipping. Cards are printed on 4.25-inch by 5.625-inch cardstock and mailed First Class with a real stamp. Remember those?

PixyMe is a great idea come to life, and a great iPhone app to boot.
