There’s nothing that makes catching some rays more fun than music to accompany the good times, so with that in mind this week’s best apps leads with Music Unlimited, a music streaming app that could challenge Spotify given a little time. Music Unlimited
Will Spotify soon have competition from a new app from Sony? Music Unlimited hopes so. The free app lets users stream their music library right on their iPhone, but premium subscribers get the real meat of the app. For a monthly fee, Music Unlimited lets users stream any song from their library, listen to custom radio stations, and create playlists for custom listening experiences. While Music Unlimited strangely doesn’t disclose the number of songs available in their library, the added competition for a streaming behemoth like Spotify is certainly not unwelcome.
FlySmart
FlySmart may be on its way to becoming a must-have travel app. The app has a mountain of information for over 90 airports around the world. Things as obvious as flight status and parking lot availability are joined with airport layout maps, ground transportation options, and even a listing of the restaurants and shops for each airport. FlySmart users couldn’t know more about an airport unless they built it themselves. There’s even an option to show the wait time for security lines in select airports, so you’ll know just how early you have to arrive.
ooVoo Video Chat
ooVoo has always been a very ambitious video chat app. It already offers free video chatting for up to 12 people. But with its latest update it’s even easier to use, and iPad users can get in on the fun. Now you can connect to ooVoo right through Facebook, and find everyone you want to chat with faster than ever before. Facebook connectively might not seem like a world-beater, but it’ll go a long way towards making ooVoo a premier video chat destination.
Facebook Pages Manager
Social media entrepreneurs who keep a Facebook page but wish there was an easier way to manage it and see some analytics on-the-go should enjoy Facebook Pages Manager. Users with a Facebook page can post updates and photos from the app as well as check out the Page Insights, which provide statistics about the people browsing your page and their level of engagement with your content. As far as niche Facebook apps go, this seems a lot more engaging than a separate app for messaging.
Yahoo! Axis
Yahoo! Axis has set out to prove that search can still bring something new to the table, and the proof is in this app. Axis lets you search and then view the results all within the same page, so you can quickly return to your search if you don’t like the result you clicked on without having to jump back and forth from page to page. The app also syncs with the deskop and iPad versions of the app, so when you leave one device and continue on another you can pick up right where you left off, something that’s particularly handy in the middle of a long read you just can’t finish.
