Moxie 2 iPhone game packs power into its word-based play

Fans of word-based games should look into Moxie 2, the sequel to the popular app Moxie for iPhone and iPod Touch.

To play Moxie 2, players place letters along a three-rowed grid. Points are scored by creating words, either by adding letters or changing letters of existing words. If you place a letter that creates a non-word, you’ll “Twaddle” and lose points. Sound complicated? It’s not, but developer Blue Ox included a video tutorial to explain gameplay and strategy.

I like that Moxie 2 is a single-player game and doesn’t have any time constraints, so players can take their time and strategize the best moves, possible because users can see what letters are left (just not in the order they’ll be given). Moxie 2 also offers different themes for its games, and spelling words off the “Moxie” list will earn you extra points. Knowing a lot of words can help if you’re backed into a corner, but strategy will earn a higher score and there’s always the helpful “undo” feature.

New features that come with Moxie 2 include longer play — 64 letters instead of Moxie’s 52 — and a daily challenge to see how you stack up against the rest of Moxie 2’s players. The app also offers the ability to create six-letter words and earn a 500-point bonus for doing so; original Moxie caps words at five letters.

Moxie 2 is a fun timewaster, easily addicting and, luckily for you, currently on sale in the App Store.
