As much as I like watching trailers in the theater, I rarely seek them out on iPhone or my laptop, but that might change now that Moviefone Movies for iPad — Movie Theaters, Trailers, Showtimes and News from Hollywood is available.
Moviefone Movies for iPad is jam-packed with content pulled from Moviefone.com, including the “What’s New” carousel and hundreds of trailers for now-playing and coming-soon flicks. I found Moviefone Movies for iPad’s interface to be intuitive — when you tap on a title, you’ll be able to see a synopsis and rating info, add it to your favorites or tap through to read reviews, find nearby show times, watch exclusive clips, or see more info on a starring actor or actress.
My favorite feature of Moviefone Movies for iPad is the trailer section. Here you can watch trailers in up to 720p HD quality, and once you finish a trailer the next starts automatically. Of course, you can turn off continuous play, but I really liked being able to prop up my iPad and just sit back and watch. It’s a truly excellent way to see trailers you might have otherwise ignored. My only gripe is that you can’t immediately see more information about a film from the trailer section. Instead you’ll need to search for the title if you want to see a full synopsis or cast information. The app also supports AirPlay for Apple TV.
Using your GPS location, Moviefone Movies for iPad will display nearby theaters and schedules. Some, but not all, theaters offer in-app ticketing via Movietickets.com, too. The app also includes suggestions of places to grab a drink or bite to eat — perfect for anyone wanting dinner and a movie.
