My summer is quickly filling up with weekend trips and keeping track of hotel reservations in my email just isn’t cutting it. Enter Wipolo – Your mobile travel friend, a social travel app for iPhone and iPod Touch.
With Wipolo, which uses a dedicated log-in or Facebook Connect, users can keep track of upcoming flight and hotel reservations, all of which are viewable offline. You’ll get the most out of the app if you connect your Facebook account, but I like that it’s not required. Inputting your travel information to the app can be done by hand, or simply by forwarding an email confirmation to Wipolo’s dedicated email address. The app’s tool section offers a flight and train tracker, currency calculator, and weather forecast. Wipolo was created in Europe, so weather is only displayed in Celsius—not ideal for Americans with poor conversion abilities.
Wipolo also offers an exploration feature, allowing users to pin places they’ve visited in the past as well as places they’d like to go in the future. You can see popular places other Wipolo travelers have selected and the information will update to your Facebook account, creating a travel history complete with miles traveled and a map.
Wipolo is free, although the App Store does mention a $64.99 in-app subscription which I couldn’t find anywhere. Despite its strengths in reservation tracking, I did find Wipolo to be a touch on the unstable side, with sluggish load times and the occasional crash.
