For the price of a beer or two at the ballpark, MLB.com At Bat 2009 gives you a virtual box seat to every Major League Baseball game on the schedule. Baseball fans should make the $10 investment, because it is the best choice for baseball-related iPhone apps.
MLB At Bat 2009 is fairly pricey for an app – $9.99 – but it is also loaded with features that make it well worth the money. The app offers live scoring and box scores that are not any different than you will see in Sportacular or ESPN ScoreCenter, but it sets itself apart with tons of videos and even live audio.
The app has a limited number of free games that it streams daily, and if you subscribe to MLB TV then you can watch any game live from your iPhone. If you miss your favorite team’s game, there is a feature called MLB.com Condensed Games that shows you the payoff pitch from every one of the game’s at bats.
If that is not enough, live audio is available for all games and includes both the home and visiting team’s feeds.
Blackout restrictions do apply, so if you were hoping to use this as a way to get around your local team’s blackouts you are out of luck. Also, if you spend a good amount of time watching videos or listening to the audio of games, your battery is going to feel it.
MLB.com At Bat 2009 will not bring back the Montreal Expos or fix all the tainted home run records – but as far as I can tell that is about all it will not do.
