It takes a special kind of baseball fan to get interested in the minor league baseball season. After all, the MLB regular season offers basically non-stop baseball from April through October. But because baseball prospects take longer to marinate in the minor leagues than the average NBA or NFL draft prospects who usually rise up right from the draft to offer at least some contribution to their new teams, the MiLB season is almost like an entirely separate sport, akin to the difference between pro boxing and amateur boxing. Finally, MiLB.com Triple-A gives fans of the highest level of minor leagues an app all their own, and it’s pretty thorough.
Certainly it has things you might expect from an official app, like the latest league news and a scoreboard of all the day’s games, but the app also lets you focus on your favorite Triple-A team. If you want to follow the Rochester Red Wings, you can do so by adding them to the app’s main page.
Suddenly their schedule, news and roster are just a click away. The only glitch in this otherwise handy feature is that while the app allows you to have multiple “favorite teams,” it only adds the first team you selected for the menu bar on the bottom of the app. A minor quibble, but some sort of scrolling selection option might be nice for the minor league superfan who wants to keep tabs on more than one club.
Just because the minor league season is winding down is no reason to skip downloading MiLB.com Triple-A. The playoffs will be covered completely, including gamecast coverage with live text play-by-play through the championship series. Even after the games are over there will be additional offseason league info to follow and keep track of, if you’re so inclined.
If you’re a fan of Triple-A baseball, this app should put a smile on your face. It is simply designed, so while there might not be too many eye-popping visuals, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for with just a few taps. That seems oddly appropriate for an app covering minor league baseball. Without the flash of the MLB stars, the focus remains on the game itself. And MiLB.com Triple-A has a pretty good game to focus on.
