Many factors can contribute to a true sense of well-being. Here is a list of go-to iPhone apps that deal with treating your body and spirit well through eating right, exercising, relaxing and avoiding undue stress.
Eat right
A healthy diet is the foundation of achieving a sense of well-being. And, nothing makes me happier than walking through the well-stocked and lovingly displayed aisles of the Whole Foods Market produce section on the hunt for that well fed Zen. Whenever I need a diet pick-me-up, I don’t turn to a diet book; I turn to my local Whole Foods Market and their free recipe app. Quickly find a nutritious and organic recipe out of items you have on hand. Or, search recipes in the app and build a grocery list from the ones you like best. This app ensures a healthy meal every night.
In your quest for well-being, it doesn’t hurt to take a break from the cheeseburger and fries, even if they are organic; every once in a while, fill your plate to the brim with a delicious vegan meal. The Vegan Recipe Finder ($2.99) app has more than 13,000 user-submitted and tested recipes. Start off simple — if you have an aversion to fake meat, you don’t have to eat it. Try something like the vegan French toast or the orange kalamata Moroccan style salad.
Make time for yoga and exercise
This fitness app is a little pricey at $9.99, but once you get a look at this lady’s abs, you won’t regret buying it. Check out the Tracey Mallet Fitness app for workout videos on the go, such as “Dancer’s Body,” “Total Body Fat Burner” and even a “Pregnancy System,” that really deliver.
A well-rounded workout should include some yoga and stretching. The All-in Yoga app ($1.99) is a content-rich app filled with yoga poses galore. This app has ready-made yoga routines for beginners, intermediate and advanced yogis.
Get some sleep!
It’s no wonder we have a hard time getting the recommended amount of sleep — we are constantly plugged into technology. If you are going to be plugged in, you might as well be plugged into well-being. So put down the social media apps and check out the free iHome+Sleep app, an innovative alarm app that actually let’s you set sleep and wakeup timers synced with Twitter and Facebook to let you know what your friend’s said while you were sleeping. The app also keeps track of sleep statistics to ensure you are getting your optimal hours of sleep each night.
Another great sleep inducing app is the Pure Sleep – AmbiScience Binaural & Isochronic Ambient Sleep Utility app (99 cents). The ambient music in this app puts me to sleep in seconds.
Avoid undue stress
When I need to chill out, I tap into the Stress Free with Deepak Chopra app ($2.99) app. It’s full of interactive exercises for the mind, body and soul to eliminate stress in a holistic manner. I listen to the secrets of a stress-free life while I walk to work. Deepak promises change in your life after two weeks—try it, you might like it.
If all you really want is a vacation, yet you don’t have the funds or time to go on a full-fledged break to the beach, check out the Relax app ($2.99). Whether you prefer a campfire, winter wonderland or a day at the beach, this app has your five-minute vacation on your iPhone covered.
