Since the Library of Congress has declared that jail-breaking your iPhone is perfectly OK, it only makes sense that the entity roll out its own educational iPhone and iPod Touch app.
Within the free app, users—students in particular will benefit from the information—can explore areas seven areas of content. Sections on the Main Reading Room, Minerva and the Great Hall offer looks into the building’s architecture and decoration. In “Creating the United States,” “Exploring the Americas” and the “Bible Collection,” users will be able to get an up-close view of historical documents and artworks.
All of the sections include audio information provided by experts and curators within each section, swipeable photo galleries with informative captions, and related links from the Library of Congress website that open online. The part on Thomas Jefferson’s Library also offers a video on its history.
The Library of Congress app is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the collected works and knowledge housed in its buildings on Capitol Hill. The app can’t possibly compare to an actual visit, but it’s certainly an acceptable substitute.
