Learn by association with 3 Degrees of Wikipedia iPhone app

Have you ever gotten lost in the web of Wikipedia? You search something, only to come across another link that catches your interest? Well, somebody clever has decided to turn your Wiki searches into a game with the 3 Degrees of Wikipedia iPhone app (99 cents).

The app is designed to test your powers of association by giving users just two steps to link seemingly unconnected people or subject matters.

For example, Meryl Streep and Russian roulette. Tap on the Wikipedia page for Meryl Streep, and you’re given a photo along with a long list of personal and professional biographical information. Many of these facts and details, including names of movies, awards, etc., have links to their own Wikipedia pages. Your job is to select the link that will lead you on to Russian roulette.

Tricky? You bet it is. It took me about 12 tries until I discovered that her film The Deer Hunter included scenes of Russian roulette.

Some of the games are really frustrating, others are rather obvious. The simplest one I came across was linking Halloween with “candy.” I got it on the first try.

The app tracks your score, and allows you to post it on Facebook. Also, users can get in on the fun by creating their own problems.
