The number of photos I take on a weekly basis has increased considerably as the iPhone’s camera has improved. Although I’m consistent in capturing life events, remembering to share the images with others can be time consuming and I usually forget. Kicksend, available on iPhone and iPod Touch, aims to make sharing easier and change all that.
When sharing photos and videos through mail and your camera roll you’re limited to five attachments at a time. Kicksend more than tops this restriction, offering you the ability to share up to 30 images at their original file size. To use Kicksend you’ll need to create an account, quickly done in-app. Then you can select the files you wish to send and enter your recipient’s email address. If your friend has a Kicksend account, they’ll receive the files in real-time, into their Kicksend inbox. If your friend doesn’t use the service, that’s OK, too. They’ll get an email with a preview of the images and a link to download the files at their convenience. The whole process is smooth, and because Kicksend is available across so many platforms there’s no worry that your files will get lost in the mail.
Free Kicksend accounts offer 1GB of transfer per month, plus the opportunity to earn an additional 750MB per month by sharing images, linking the desktop app or inviting friends to the service. Users with larger needs can purchase monthly plans.
My overall impression of Kicksend was a positive one, but I was disappointed that there was no in-app support for list creation. Lists allow you to send images to a number of contacts at once—ideal for family sharing—but you must create these on the Kicksend website. If you aren’t using a list in the app, you’ll only be able to send to one email address at a time.
Kicksend supports all file types and can be used in conjunction with other apps.
