I use the iPhone’s built-in timer for all sorts of simple tasks, mostly related to figuring out when to check my laundry or take something out of the oven, and I can’t say I’ve ever found it particularly lacking. That said, 30/30 makes a strong case for why it could evolve into not just a timer for the rare odd job, but for your entire day, too.
Not everyone will appreciate it, but 30/30 lets you set up numerous timers so that you can actually time every single activity in your day separately and watch the timers expire one by one. Say you want to work for 45 minutes, take a 10-minute break, and then work for another 45 minutes. You can set three separate timers that will expire one after the other. It’s rather nice if you want to micromanage your entire day or have to stick to a strict schedule.
Setting up the app with the alarms you want when you want them is all accomplished using a few swipe gestures that the app explains when you first boot it up. It makes for a bit of a more stylish experience, though it’s not really any faster or more intuitive than it would’ve been if you were using a few buttons within the app.
Creating a reason to own an alarm app isn’t an easy task, and for a lot of people, 30/30 won’t really be worth the bother to download and use it when the default iPhone timer works as well as it does. But for those looking for something a little more multi-faceted, 30/30 provides a worthwhile second option.
