Pose looks like a social-networking app, and promotes the same sense of community as a social-networking app, but, rather smartly, it works in concert with giants like Facebook and Twitter, not against them.
Pose is essentially a supplement for those networks, like a photo app might help you get more filters on a picture before you upload it to Facebook, Pose lets you take and browse pictures of things to help you decide whether or not to buy them.
It’s a novel approach to photo apps and lifestyle apps rolled into one smart package. When you take a photo with Pose, you can put how much the item in the photo costs and where someone can get it. Likewise, when you look at a photo, you’ll see the same info, making that bag you love a lot easier to find.
While there is a certain danger in letting just anyone crowd up the Pose feed with all sorts of photos of ugly items, Pose also has a tab called “Posers” that supposedly focuses only on the feeds of “a handpicked group of exceedingly stylish shoppers.” It’s a smart idea, and a nice way to avoid Pose becoming too cluttered with a bunch of nonsense.
Perhaps best of all, Pose doesn’t require you to remember yet another login and password. While you can list a name to make your shared items identifiable, you’ll never have to set up an account with Pose.
This does create the biggest downside of the app — following your friends or even specific people whose pictures you liked isn’t exactly possible, because no one has a set login. It would be nice to have a feed dedicated to people who really felt fashion forward, but instead you’re left to the whims of the all-in-one feed.
If you don’t mind peaking in on the world’s fashion sense, that isn’t too big of a problem, and, regardless, Pose is one of the more well-designed lifestyle apps I’ve come across. If you have an interest in other people’s fashion, this is worth checking out.
