iPhone App Video Review: N.O.V.A. 2

When N.O.V.A. was first released I have to admit I was definitely geeked. There hadn’t been too many quality first person shooters available for the iPhone and I happen to be a large Halo fan. What we ended up with was something fun, but it definitely missed any sense of real challenge or immersion I would have hoped for. N.O.V.A. 2 changes all of that.

Right from the beginning the player is greeted with a full orchestral soundtrack and plenty of explosions to go around. The controls feel like they’ve been honed even more and moving my character around was a breeze. All throughout the somewhat massive campaign, you will be fighting the revamped AI, which are much tougher than the original game. The battles can last longer that you would want but it is almost always a fun fight.

The multiplayer has also received a much needed overhaul and there is a night and day difference between the two games in this mode. You can rank up and play different modes on ten different maps. It also helps that the graphics have seen a huge overhaul and now work wonderfully with the retina display.

If you liked the first N.O.V.A., you are going to adore this next entry in the series. It is a definite buy and is helping to shape the genre for these devices into something amazing. Check it out.
