iPhone App Video Review: Google Places

There have been quite a few apps to grace the App Store with services that help you find points of interest near you. We’ve had awesome food apps like Urbanspoon, as well as more general apps offering a wide variety of places like Yelp. Google has finally decided to release their own version aptly named Places

This now native app brings some excellent features like user reviews and quick searches to the iPhone. Like many of its kind, once the app is started and you are signed into your account, you can browse through different topics to find the different offerings in your area. Once a list is chosen, you can select a location and view various reviews posted across many different sites.

My first question when I saw this app was, “what’s so different about this than my Maps app?” and truth be told there isn’t much of a difference. The user interface is catered toward discovery and finding what you are looking for.

Because of this I definitely recommend it, but I could easily see this being integrated with maps in the future.
