I’m about to channel my inner Usher. It’s confession time, Appolicious readers: I did not pre-order my iPhone 4S in time.
I intended to, but moving money around proved a bit trickier than I anticipated, so now I’ll have to wait a few extra weeks to replace my trusty 3GS with the new top dog. I know, it’s tragic. Somehow, I’ve been coping with enormous amounts of TV and Ben & Jerry’s, but now iOS 5 is out and I don’t know what to do with myself.
Do I bother to even upgrade my 3GS or do I wait and experience the magic in one iPhone 4S burst? I honestly don’t know.
A lot of iOS 5 features are for things I already use. I’ve been a Read It Later guy for a long time now. So while I’m certainly plussed that Safari’s new “Reading List” feature will integrate seamlessly into my web browsing, it’s not something I’m absolutely missing out on.
Twitter is a different story altogether. I am hopelessly, un-romantically (for now, at least) addicted to Twitter. If the Echfon app were an actual button, I would have to get it replaced, such is my love for Twitter. I can not express how much I want to be able to log-in to my Twitter account from my iPhone and send tweets from all of my other apps. I want it now! Or do I?

This reminds me of the torture of Christmas’ past. I’d want so badly to open a few presents at a time, but when it was finally December 25th and I was able to open everything at once, the release was exhilarating. Unless I had peaked the night before. Sometimes that happens, too.
And I’ve been peaking at this iOS list for what feels like months now. Even something as benign as the iPhone Calendar app is getting upgraded here and I want it! I’ve tried all sorts of various calendar apps with my iPhone and they all generally wind up lost and forgotten because I don’t actually want to use two calendars to remember to do things.
I’ve gone through all sorts of calendar apps, all of them quite good, from the Holidays Calendar to the Birthday Calendar Classic. Now, with the new To-Do List and updated calendar features, I can streamline. I so badly want to streamline!
Having said all that, I think I’ll wait. These apps I’ve downloaded in the past are more than enough to hold me over until I can appreciate the real deal on an iPhone that is ready to handle them. As I’ve said for years, go big or go home. For now, I’ll go home, but I’ll see you in a few weeks, iOS 5.
