The iOrgel app is sweet, pretty and one I could do without. (But maybe that’s just me.) The idea is you can either create songs of your own on a little piano, save and listen to them, or you can play staff-chosen sample songs through a little music box.
In order to access the music you make or the tunes that already exist, you unwind the little music box handle. You can edit songs that already exist — or your own if you’d like to go back and make adjustments — but you have to make sure to download them first (though downloading songs is super easy and only takes a second).
One definite positive is that the sounds the music box makes are pretty pleasant so no matter what songs you make or edit, they all wind up sounding delicate and lovely. The negative aspect of this app is, I don’t know, when is the right time to make or listen to pretty, little jewelry-box songs on your iPhone/iPod Touch? Is there ever a right time for this?
Another feature advertised on the iTunes description page is that you can share your songs with people all over the world. When I’m ready to share a song, I press share, and wait to be notified that it has worked. Then I see it appear in my local menu, and I assume it is also then appearing in other people’s local menus, but it’s hard to say; I don’t have any proof, so it remains a bit of a mystery.
At the end of the day, iOrgel is OK — especially for a free app. There’s nothing bad or offensive about it; it’s certainly not the worst app. It just seems like a last resort for a rainy day.
