The Wheels On the Bus app is what it implies: an animated version of the familiar children’s song.
Upon launching, the app displays a series of animated screens while a man’s voice sings the lyrics. At each screen, a child can touch at least one object to trigger another sound or animation.
While kids older than 2 years might get easily bored with Wheels On the Bus, those under 2 will probably be fascinated with the music, moving shapes and colors. And that’s my quibble with this app: if they’re anything like my 18-month-old son, parents will need to keep close watch when their little ones play with Wheels On the Bus to prevent them from repeatedly hitting the home screen button on an iPod Touch or iPhone, or worse, flinging the device to the ground and shattering it to pieces.
I’m dubious about the value of apps like these that are geared toward the littlest fingers. Personally, I’d rather have him fling Tickle Me Elmo to the ground and shatter that.
Still, Wheels on the Bus has a multilingual option, as well as different vocal instrumentation. Users can even record one’s own voice as an accompaniment, which is a nice feature that will extend the child’s interest in this app.
