Inspiration is only a notification away with Bloom* iPhone app

Improving your life is just a tap away — at least that’s what the team at Mindbloom thinks its new app Bloom*, for iPhone and iPod Touch, can provide.

By planting “Blooms” throughout your day, Bloom* can serve as a much-needed work distraction, a pick-me-up, a motivator or a reminder to do something to better your life. It’s more interesting to use the app for things like this instead of “get groceries” or the mundane you might include in other reminder apps.

You can create custom Blooms or browse the Bloom*Shop to see what other users have inspired — a 3 p.m. reminder to take a tropical vacation and a 9 a.m. glass of water notification come standard. Pair your Bloom with photos from your camera roll or Bloom’s gallery and add a song from your iTunes’ playlist for extra immersion. That prompt to “hit the gym” does carry a bit more impact with a sporty photo and prime workout song attached to it. You can specify the time of the alert — or make it random — and set how often you want the reminder to occur.

Bloom* offers plenty of sharing options, which means you can use the app to pair up photos and music even if you don’t want to use them as reminder prompts. Bloom* also integrates with Mindbloom’s Life Tree game, which launched in September, but an account is required. In Life Tree, users program everyday tasks. By completing the task you’ll keep the tree alive and growing.

Bloom* isn’t a can’t-live-without app, but if you’re the type who needs prompts to get away from it all, give it a look.
