How to choose your keyboard settings
It’s worth noting first that any third-party keyboard will have to be installed before anything else. So, if you want access to a new set of emojis, download the app from the App Store first, and then begin the process.
- From the home screen tap Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Keyboard.
- Tap Keyboards.
- The keyboard(s) you’re currently using will be displayed at the top. Below them, tap Add New Keyboard.
- Find the language you want to use and tap on it. It should now appear on the list with the other language(s).
- To choose which language your iPhone or iPad uses first, tap Edit in the top right hand corner.
- The languages should appear with a red circle next to them. Press the red circle if you want to delete any.
- The language at the top of the list will be your primary language. To move them around press and hold on the three bars to the right. Move it into the right position.
- Tap Done.
How to change languages quickly
Now that you have more than one keyboard, there’s an easier and much quicker way of changing language.
- Whichever app you’re messaging from, bring the keyboard up.
- Tap and hold the small globe next to the microphone on the bottom left hand corner. After a second your languages should appear.
- Tap on the language you want to use, highlighting it in blue.
- Your keyboard should now have changed
There are no limits to how many keyboards you can select on your iPhone or iPad, though the majority of people won’t use more than one or two. It’s the simplest way of changing languages while you message others, and means that, no matter who you’re contacting, you’ll be able to speak in the language of your choice.
