If you want to know what’s happening in the world right now, the AP Mobile news app is a must-have. It puts all the news that matters to you is in the palm of your hand.
The customization of how you receive the news is the real strength of the Associated Press news reader. You select among standard news categories–top stories, local news, sports or wacky headlines–but you can easily add more specialized options, such as world news by region, science news and even press releases.
Further, the AP Mobile app can “push” breaking news to users based on those categories. If there’s a plane crash or a no-hitter in progress, AP Mobile will alert you. A useful addition is a weather button on the bottom of the app; touch that for a quick daily forecast and a look at the week ahead.
AP Mobile is simple to operate. After you select the news you want, AP Mobile loads the categories you choose. Two headlines from each category are offered with a link to more stories below that. You can change the number of stories presented by changing the settings within the app simply by clicking the “Customize” button at the top of the front page.
If there’s a drawback to the app’s front page, it’s that the top third of the screen includes links to photos and videos in the news. I found this to be a waste of valuable space, but some users might like browsing through photos to scan the news.
You can share stories with friends or co-workers, too. Story links can be sent via text messaging or email, plus you can link stories on Twitter and Facebook.
