Given its reputation as a cheap fashion icon store, I was pleasantly surprised by the free H&M app’s high-end feel. Most retail apps provide little more than the location of the nearest store, but this one is laden with products, blogs and cool videos.
Much like Target and Kohl’s, H&M drives sales by partnering with elite designers. This fall, the company collaborated with Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz; and on the app were no less than a dozen edgy video clips of the designer introducing his H&M line. Others featured “Fashion Night Out” and fall trends.
The app allows users to peruse the most recent collection item by item. If something cathces your eye, you can add it to your “wish list,” email it to a friend, or upload it to Facebook. The “wish list” maintains a running tab for what your haul will cost you. There is not, however, an option to purchase anything via the app. Perhaps you have to jump to the company website to do that?
One additional facet of the app is the style guide, which provides with ideas on how to assemble a cool outfit. And unlike looking at Vogue magazine, you can be assured it won’t run you more than $100 or so.
